Time To Set Sail

Nautical timepieces perfect for navigating the worlds of form and functio

Nine years ago, the Day of the Seafarer was established to honour sailors across the globe for their contribution to the world.  The annual and international event day coordinated by the International Maritime Organisation, recognises the importance seafarers and how they are essential they are to the world.

As sailing requires precision and accuracy, nautical timepieces have also proven to be indispensable timekeepers not just for the sailing community but to those who value time. Whether it is for conquering the high seas or charting a new course for style and finesse, the following are the perfect timepieces to have strapped on for any seaborne adventure.

Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 36th America’s Cup Limited Edition

To commemorate its role as the official timekeeper of the 36th America’s Cup, Omega has released this edition of the Seamaster with a slight makeover.  The timepiece features a 43.5mm steel case and is powered by the Omega Master Chronometer Calibre 8900. Captivating in the colours of red, white and blue, the timepiece’s white polished ceramic dial features the ‘36th America’s Cup’ at 6 o’clock.  A tiny cut-out of the Auld Mug also serves as counterweight on the seconds hand with the competition’s logo also taking centre stage on the exhibition caseback. To keep with the coloured motif, the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 36th America’s Cup Limited Edition is presented with a blue structured rubber strap with red edges and white stitching.

IWC Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph

The third generation of the Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph lends itself a more streamlined and compact silhouette thanks largely to the integrated style bracelet and slightly smaller lugs. Despite its new svelte appearance, the timepiece still retains a number of maritime elements along with typical Portugieser design features such as the characteristic minute scale and rugged 6 bar water-resistance. IWC is offering the collection in three variants, a stainless steel version with a blue dial as well as a silver-plated dial and a stainless steel and 18k rose gold variant. Tucked within the 44mm case is the in-house manufactured cal. 89361 movement with flyback functionality.

Panerai Luminor Regatta Chrono Flyback

With a light and robust 47 brushed titanium case, and a high-precision movement, the Luminor Regatta Chrono Flyback is built for the yachting world. The P.9100/R Panerai movement drives the functions of the watch including the nifty flyback chronograph and a regatta countdown feature, which is a feature hardcore sailors and yachtsmen will truly appreciate. The Luminor Regatta Chrono Flyback retains the signature Panerai aesthetic with a bold black dial paired with contrasting orange central minutes hands and blue seconds hand for increased eligibility. Paired with a sophisticated black strap and a 100 metre water resistance, the high performance timepiece also comes with a 3-day power reserve.
