Kuala Lumpur, 23rd May 2018 – IWC Schaffhausen teamed up with long-term retail partner Swiss Watch Gallery to celebrate its 150th anniversary and the launch of its new limited-edition Jubilee collection in Malaysia. A total of 80 VIP guests comprising the companies’ most-valued clients and members of the local press participated in the momentous occasion at Slate at The Row, a chic industrial warehouse that recalled the design of IWC’s factory in its early days.

Since 2004, IWC has reinforced its legacy in engineering high-quality timepieces and mechanical movements in Malaysia through its long-term partnership with Kuala Lumpur-based luxury watch retailer Swiss Watch Gallery.

On 23rd May 2018, Slate at The Row – a chic industrial warehouse in downtown Kuala Lumpur – transformed into IWC’s factory in its early days, where 80 of the companies’ most-valued clients and members of the local press came together to trace the footsteps of IWC’s adventurous founder Florentine Ariosto Jones (F.A. Jones) and, more importantly, celebrate the 150th anniversary of the manufacture which he started on the bank of the breathtaking Rhine Falls in Schaffhausen in 1868.

Hosted by TV personality and former Miss World Malaysia Nadia Heng (@nadiaheng), VIP guests were treated to a four-course gourmet dinner by Quivo; an open gentlemen’s bar run by Pernod Ricard which served up glasses of Glenlivet whisky, Perrier-Jouët champagne and Martell cognac; live tunes by six-piece indie burlesque pop band Fazz; and a stand-up performance by World’s Funniest Person 2016, Harith Iskander. Among the many high points of the night were also intimate cocktail-making sessions led by Martell ambassador Pierre Boyer, which paid tribute to the exacting craftsmanship of Swiss watchmakers that F.A. Jones had set out to discover back in 1868.

The star of the show came in the form of IWC’s new limited-edition Jubilee collection, which guests had the opportunity to discover up close. On display were exquisitely handcrafted references such as the Portugieser Perpetual Calendar Edition “150 Years”,

the Da Vinci Automatic Edition “150 Years” and, most impressively, the award-winning IWC Tribute to Pallweber Edition “150 Years”, which spanned five years in technical development.

In addition to IWC’s 150th birthday, the night’s celebrations also marked a special milestone as the brand’s boutique at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur opened in partnership with Swiss Watch Gallery turns 10.

“In the same bold, adventurous and inventive spirit of F.A. Jones, who was always one step ahead of his peers, IWC, today, remains at the forefront of high-end technical watchmaking,” says Managing Director for IWC South East Asia Mr. Stanislas Rambaud. “As IWC commemorates its Jubilee this year, we are proud to be able to tell the compelling story of Jones and his journey to watchmaking greatness in Malaysia through our valued long-term partner Swiss Watch Gallery,” he adds.

“We would like to congratulate IWC on this wonderful milestone. We have always been in admiration of the craftsmanship and innovations that have shaped 150 years of IWC’s history, and the brand’s steadfast commitment to producing extraordinary timepieces,” says Sharan Valiram, Executive Director of retail group Valiram, which owns Swiss Watch Gallery. “Valiram and Swiss Watch Gallery are proud and honoured to have been a part of IWC’s growth story in South East Asia.”
